I am such an advocate for good skincare. I know some people might think my routine is a little excessive, but I think it is imperative to take good care of your skin, so why not splurge on high quality products that will get the job done? My mother has instilled this value in me. She is so diligent about wearing sunscreen, and has been since she was my age, and it has paid off. She is over 50 years old and is constantly asked if she is my sibling’s and my nanny because of how young she looks. When she went to buy wine with my 20 year old brother, my mom got carded and my brother didn’t.
My skin is more on the dry side, and I have never been very acne prone. These are the products I love and that work for my skin type, but I am not a dermatologist. What works for me will not work for everyone, but I hope you can find a few gems from the brands and products that I love. Being happy and comfortable in your own skin is so important. I know I feel a lot more confident and beautiful when I love my skin.
Morning
- Wash face- Since I do not have oily skin, I just use a really gentle cleanser. I love the CeraVe one and the first aid beauty one. I do not like super intense cleansers that make my skin feel tight after I use them.
- Vitamin c serum mixed with b hydra– After I wash my face, I mix these two together in the palm of my hand and then rub them on my face. I love vitamin c serums. I used to notice some unevenness in skin tones throughout my face, but since I have started using a vitamin c serum that has gone away. And I mix it with b hydra, which is a super light moisturizer, because the vitamin c serum leaves me feeling a little dry.
- Sunscreen- Sunscreen is SO SO IMPORTANT. If there is one thing you take away from this post please let it be to wear sunscreen everyday. Sunscreen not only helps prevent skin cancer, but it prevents wrinkles. The elta m.d. sunscreen is my absolute favorite. My dermatologist recommended it to me and it is super lightweight and does not feel oily.
Night
- Wash face- Again, I just use the same face wash from the morning, and occasionally I will use an exfoliating face wash if I feel I need it. I like the St. Ives exfoliating face wash. I have been using this since middle school lol.
- Occasional face mask- Sometimes if my skin is super super dry or if I’m just in a pampering mood I will put on the eminence calm skin face mask. This is super gentle and just makes my skin feel super soft and hydrated.
- Night time serum mixed with marula oil– I use the drunk elephant glycolic night time serum mixed with the drunk elephant marula oil. The serum is supposed to lift away dead skin cells and improve your skin tone, texture, and wrinkles. I just know that I like the way my skin feels more on the days that I use it.
- Moisturizer- Depending on how dry my skin is, I will either use my drunk elephant protini moisturizer, or I will use my belief aqua bomb sleeping mask. I love this sleep mask. It makes my skin feel so so soft when I wake up in the morning.
I use a lot of drunk elephant products, which I know are on the pricier side, but I truly think these products are so worth it. My friend’s mom actually started the brand, and they are what got me so into skin care. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative though check out sephora collection’s new clean skin care line! They have a lot of dupes, like vitamin c serum, and great products at a really affordable price. I haven’t tried their line yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things!
